If you are experiencing GPS issues with a Stinger radio, follow the troubleshooting steps below to sort out the problem.
- Can the GPS antenna see the satellites in the sky?
- The GPS antenna shouldn't have any obstructions above it aside from the dashboard plastic or the front windshield glass. Obstructions may include metal in the tint, a metal roof overhang, or a dashboard module above it.
- Are there nearby devices that might interfere with the GPS antenna's performance?
- Is there another satellite antenna close by? A SiriusXM antenna could interfere with it.
- Are there any nearby speakers with strong magnets? A strong magnetic field will disrupt the signal.
- Is the GPS antenna connected to the radio?
- This may not sound like an issue, but it can happen. Shoving the radio and all the components into the dash can sometimes pop the antenna loose from the radio. Even tension on the connector can cause issues.
- Did the GPS antenna fall?
- If the GPS antenna is mounted in the dash and not secured, it could fall. Especially so if the vehicle drives off-road. Ensure it is securely zip-tied without any tension pulling on it. If driving off-road, additional securing or a different location may be needed.
If you have performed all the troubleshooting steps and are still experiencing an issue, you may have a faulty GPS antenna.
- Remove the antenna from its location and put it on top of the vehicle, in the middle of the roof.
- Pull outside and away from any buildings, trees, or obstructions.
- Within a minute or two, the GPS antenna should acquire a satellite signal. If the GPS antenna still doesn't work, it is faulty and must be replaced.
